A
leader is a dealer in hope.

It's common to hear someone described as a "born leader" or a "natural leader." And it's true that some people have a inborn tendency to step out in front and say "Hey, let's do it this way!" Sometimes these personality types make positive change in their world - and sometimes they don't. There's more to being a leader than being willing and having a loud voice.
The most effective leaders combine the traits and skills that are the focus of the Leadership Napa Valley program. These are people who:
- Inspire a shared vision
- Model the way
- Enable others to act
- Challenge the process
- Encourage the heart
These concepts of leadership training originate with The Leadership Challenge by authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner.
- Demonstrate a high level of interest in the Napa Valley.
- Aspire to serve on boards or fill other leadership roles in the Valley and in your own vocation.
- Show evidence of mature judgement.
- Have a strong likelihood of remaining in the Napa Valley for five years after completion of the program.
- Have the full endorsement from employer.
- Make a personal commitment to attend all sessions.
- Be ready for a challenge -- getting into the program is competitive, but it IS worth it!
